A teenager who tragically lost her life while swimming with friends near Howth on Sunday has been remembered as the “kindest soul ever,” as the North Dublin community rallies to raise funds for her funeral.
Abbie Carmody-Pepper (15) died after she got into difficulty swimming off Burrow Beach near Howth in North Dublin.
Tributes have been paid by family members, as the community was plunged into mourning.
“Forever young my angel,” said Abbie’s older brother Leon.
One cousin said: “My beautiful baby cousin. The kindest and quietest little soul ever. The whole family is broken.
“How quick something can happen to destroy a family. Please look over everyone, especially your poor ma and da and the boys. The family will never be the same again. Our beautiful baby cousin, I love you to bits.”
Local Councillor Gavin Pepper, who was related to Abbie, said: “I was shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Abbie Pepper in a tragic accident in Sutton yesterday. It was even more heartbreaking to find out we are related.
“I visited the family this evening and on behalf of my cousin Wayne and his partner Mandy they wish to thank everyone for their love and support at this difficult time. They now wish for privacy to grieve their daughter in peace.”
Floral tributes have been left at the beach where Abbie drowned, while a Go Fund Me has so far raised close to €1,500 for her grieving family.
Abbie’s death notice reads: “Abbie (Late of Poppintree) May 24th 2026. Tragically whilst swimming at Howth. Beloved daughter of Mandy and Wayne and beloved sister of Leon, Aaron and Warren. Sadly missed by her heartbroken family, grandfather Charlie, aunts, uncles, cousins, school pals, relatives, neighbours and friends.”
