On Friday last, a Sligo businessman, Cathal O’Connor was sentenced to five years in prison, with three suspended, by Sligo Circuit Criminal Court. He was convicted of assaulting three 13-year-old boys at Northwest Business Park in Sligo in March 2024.
The case received particular prominence because former Fianna Fáil TD Marc MacSharry had provided a testimonial for O’Connor. MacSharry is now the owner of Pontis Advisory, which has been described by some as a lobbying group – it is listed on the lobbying register 19 times, six of them related to ‘zoning and development.’
