The shocking bus incident which took the life of Mr Daly also led to three people being hospitalised – with two pedestrians, a man in his 20s and a woman in her 30s, being treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the bus is also being treated in hospital, and she was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The Gardaí, who are also investigating the possibility of a mechanical issue, are eager to speak to the driver.
They seek to establish exactly how the bus, which was not in service at the time, drove forward into the pedestrianised zone in North Earl Street, rather than turning onto Marlborough Street from Talbot St.
The bus collided with a lampost outside Guiney’s shop after striking Mr Daly and other pedestrians on the busy pedestrianised shopping street.
Gardaí have requested that if anyone has photographs or video of the incident to not share them but to make them available to the Garda investigation team at Store Street Garda Station.
Anyone who was in the area between 12.15pm and 1pm on Thursday and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) is asked to make that footage available to investigating Gardaí, they said.
Gardaí can be contacted at Store Street Garda Station on 01 666 8000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
