Did you hear the one where the UK government and left wing universities have decided to bury the next generation in debt, at the same time as the UK abortion rate soars to ever higher record levels? It’s happening, and the two things are obviously connected. First, the debt.
Sky News did a feature where it explained that because of soaring inflation many students are seeing their student loans hugely increase even as they pay it off.
The clip linked here explains that the repayment plan, Plan 2 says that the student loans, borrowed to cover the cost of the degree and maintenance must be repaid at the rate of RPI inflation + 3%. The massive increase in inflation means the interest on the student loan has increased with no cap. Two lovely ladies came on Sky news to explain their story.
Isobel has an undergraduate and postgraduate degree. Her student debt is over £67K. Her loan is increasing by £200 per month, far more than what she pays off. The other lovely lady Eloise graduated with her degree and £43k of debt. Amazingly, a mere six years later she now has £57k of debt.
Two important points: if you benefit from the bank of mum and they pay the student fees upfront then obviously said student does not incur this debt. Also, the debt, once you hit 50 years of age (can that be right?) is written off. Happy birthday! Finally graduates must earn a certain amount to start paying the loan back.
Now I know what you are going to say my lovely conservative readers. Oh, cry me a river Laura, they knew what they were doing when they went to university and took out the loan. You borrow the money, you pay it back. Sure, you could think that. But then don’t come crying to me when the fertility rate keeps going south.
One thing I noticed about the lovely ladies (Isobel and Eloise, what English names), was that they were lovely. And these are exactly the type of women who you will be interviewed in say the Irish Times or The Times in 5 years’ time saying they can’t afford to have children. And you know what – they aren’t lying. They genuinely can’t afford to have children.
Unless they marry rich, a man who is backed up with a bank of mum and dad and lots of secret money neither of these women will be able to afford to have a child. How are they supposed to service the debt, buy or rent a home and pay the childcare fees? They can’t. No one can – that’s the truth.
Now, I ask you, dear readers: When you consider this monstrous pile of debt being piled on the young women, do the record abortion figures that came out last week make more sense to you? We pile the young people up with debt and increasingly useless degrees so that they’ll never be able to afford anything worth buying, and then we wonder why they radicalise left and abort all the babies.
You can be a conservative and view this narrowly, like too many Brits do, and say, your actions have responsibilities. If Isobel and Eloise don’t have children I don’t care. Fine, but you will care though when some jumped up politician comes along and says well we need high immigration to support our pensioners as not enough babies are being born. I reckon you will care then.
What kind of society treats their young women like this (I’m not going to discuss the men for now)? What bonkers, insane, unhinged society takes their fertile women, puts over 50k of debt on their shoulders, creates a housing crisis and then wonders out loud, why don’t they get married and have kids. What kind of society creates a debt culture as a rite of passage for their young people, especially their young women? A sick one, that’s what.
Remember it wasn’t that long ago when young women and their family were expected to bring a dowry into the marriage. Now, they bring debt. This is stupid, this is weapons grade idiocy, this is all contributing to the decline of the west.
It’s easy to say, well they didn’t have to go to university. But in truth you do. You do have to go to university to become a lawyer, doctor or engineer. I think. And young people are placed under an enormous amount of pressure to attend university as employers, while complaining that degree holders know nothing and have no skills, still demand a degree as a basic requirement for employment.
Do you think my new friends, the Igbo people of Nigeria do this to their young women? I doubt it. Do the Amish do this to their young women? No. Do you honestly believe the Haida people who live on the windswept and wild archipelago of Haida Gwaii, off the west coast of British Columbia do this, I doubt it. Or the Kuku Yalanji of Australia? Nope.
And yet, we here in the west, in Ireland or Britain who think we are the clever clogs, the apex of civilization, create this kind of debt obligation for our young women and believe it makes total sense. It does not. It’s madness and if it keeps going it is a quick way to have your culture extinguished.
What is equally baffling is why these young women have not organised and radicalised on this issue of student debt, even though they are voting to the left. But then if you spend all your time on your smartphone worrying about Gaza and the trannies you have less time and energy to understand your own exploitation. If only someone would cut through the internet lines: then we might have a radical movement on our hands. Instead we just have a bunch of airheads on Instagram. It’s tragic.
