Last Friday when I published a news story noting the massive backlash to a post on social media from Dublin City Council announcing their ‘Winter Lights’, I noted that the ratio of likes to views on the chirpy video was pretty dismal.
Since then, despite DCC utterances on the matter, the ratio has worsened: with the video failing to garner even 100 likes from a enormous audience of almost 700,000 views, while it’s hard to find a positive remark in the 1500 or so comments. As a brand-building or positive messaging exercise it seems not to be particularly well-received, though humans being what we are, many of those complaining may go along and enjoy the display anyway.
