Fine Gael Presidential candidate Heather Humphreys appeared on RTÉ’s Today with Claire Byrne this week to argue that the reason the family and care referendums failed was because “people didn’t understand” what was being proposed, and that the people were confused about the meaning of terms like “durable relationship”.
In reality, this is a neat attempt to shift responsibility away from the Government’s own failings, because Humphreys, as Fine Gael’s director of elections during the campaign, was at the centre of the confusion.
