Catherine Connolly’s claim that Ireland has no Army (“This is not an army. Ireland will never be able to have an army. We do not need an army.”) will come as a surprise to the 6,000 people currently serving in the organisation that styles itself the ‘Irish Army,’ or Óglaigh na hÉireann.
It will also come as a surprise to the tens of thousands of people who previously served in the entity whose existence she questions.
