Last week we reported that Intel is to let 195 of its staff at its chip manufacturing plant in Leixlip go as part of what is described as a “major global restructuring” of the company’s operations.
There are currently around 4,900 employed by Intel in Ireland. Leixlip is the main site but there is also a Research and Development facility based in Shannon. It was announced last September that the closure of the R&D facility there was to be part of the company’s worldwide downsizing which will see 15% of its more than 110,000 employees lose their jobs.
