What if big money could come riding to the rescue of a Government ultimately incapable of delivering the dreams of “social good” it has for its citizens? That’s the vision set out in Ireland’s National Philanthropy Policy 2024-2028, a document I considered sufficiently underdiscussed to warrant an article on it.
I wrote some months back about Social Enterprises, and how they represent a blurring of the lines between the State, business, non-governmental organisations and charities, that nevertheless, or perhaps because of it, serves to accomplish Government policy goals, and ultimately the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, as explicitly mentioned in the national policies guiding the development of that budding field.
