The Ireland Thinks poll for the Sunday Independent on Sunday told us very little about Irish electoral politics that we do not already know. The three larger parties are all roughly in the low 20’s in terms of percentage support, and between them command the backing of about two thirds of the electorate. The rest of the public is divided between smaller groups of primarily left wing parties, with Aontu and Independent Ireland splitting almost 10% (he means they got 9% – ed) between them.
Since there is no prospect of any Irish election of any kind for the foreseeable future (the next scheduled elections of significance, Presidential election aside, are not until 2029) the party figures are somewhat irrelevant at this juncture.
