Instagram influencer, Chloe Koyce, says she was followed all the way to her hotel room by an unknown man after a night out with friends in Dublin.
The Limerick native uploaded the 15-minute video in which she emotionally described parting with two friends before the unknown man “slipped” in the hotel door behind her and followed her all the way to her room, she said.
The video has attracted well over 1 million views on Instagram alone, with Koyce saying she wants other girls – and boys – to be aware of their surroundings and safety.
Koyce described how she and her friends always practice being “safe” when parting ways at night and how her female friend had “watched” her enter her hotel before allowing the taxi she was in to depart.
“We’re very thorough with our safety, myself and Lauren will make sure we are contacting each other when we’re a taxi, contacting each other when we get home, whatever.
“I feel like myself and Lauren, like, we have that down to a T, that we are very, very safe and like, what I’m about to tell you, we couldn’t have been more safe with this whole thing.” she said.
“We couldn’t have been more safe. We did exactly what we do every night. The more I think about it, the scarier it gets.” she said.
She told her over 188,000 followers on Instagram that there was nobody in the lobby of her hotel and no security was there to check if those entering the building were in fact guests.
She went on to describe how she decided that she had to get to her room and was repeatedly pressing the close button in the lift when the stranger got in with her with his belt in his hand.
Koyce said that she didn’t know if he intended to “strangle” her, and became emotional while relating the events and thinking of the many other women for whom interactions like that had ended very badly.
Her video includes short images of the man both in the lift as well as after he followed her from the lift to where her room was, although she obscured his face saying she didn’t want the video to be “about him”.
The young woman said that were it not for her mother being in the room and the fact that she had knocked on the door to gain access, instead of using her room key, she felt as though the man – who she said followed her all the way to where her room was – may have pushed her inside.
The video has garnered thousands of comments with well wishers telling Koyce that what she experienced was “terrifying” and “extremely sinister”.
Koyce commented saying that her ordeal had been “reported uncensored”.
