Donald Trump’s thunderous return to office and all that that’s entailed – fronting immigration and threatening those who don’t take back their deportees, pushing Denmark to hand over Greenland and dropping the axe on DEI – has definitively signaled that the age of soft sentimentality is over and is rapidly being replaced by a world in which the calculated use of power is king.
The news stories referenced above don’t require further analysis here as you’re hardly able to turn around since January 20th without bumping into Trump and his doings, but the latter point about the shifting international sands is one that, this writer feels, anyway, still hasn’t hit home in ‘the West’ yet (bar America, obviously), and certainly hasn’t impressed itself upon those occupying Irish office.
