A highly anticipated report from the European Commission, outlining its economic strategy for the next five years, has been leaked and seen in full by Gript. Scheduled for official release on Wednesday, the “Competitiveness Compass” presents the Commission’s roadmap for the EU to adapt to an increasingly fraught global environment marked by “geopolitical tensions, competition for technological supremacy, and the scramble for control over resources.”
The report had been scheduled to release earlier in the month but that release was delayed after Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was hospitalized with pneumonia. While the document remains a draft and could undergo further revisions before its official publication, its contents reveal the EU’s ambition to redefine its role on the global stage.
