Fine Gael TD Helen McEntee is rumoured to become the next Education Minister in the incoming Government cabinet.
McEntee, who has served as Justice Minister since 2020, is rumoured to be set to leave that role and take over the Education portfolio, which is currently held by Fianna Fáil’s Norma Foley. It is unclear where Foley will go.
Meanwhile, Fianna Fáil leader and Tánaiste Micheál Martin is set to swap places with Fine Gael leader and Taoiseach Simon Harris, with Martin becoming the new Taoiseach.
The Dáil is set to convene this morning to elect Martin as Taoiseach for a second term. He will receive support from Fianna Fáil’s 48 TDs, Fine Gael’s 38, and nine Regional Independent TDs, who will form the next Government coalition.
Once nominated by the Dáil, the Taoiseach-elect Martin will travel to Áras an Uachtaráin in the Phoenix Park to be formally appointed Taoiseach by President Michael D. Higgins.
Afterwards, he will return to Government Buildings to hold individual meetings with the Ministers he is appointing to the Cabinet. The full Cabinet lineup is expected to be announced later on today in the afternoon.
