A man in his 40s has been arrested as part of the investigation into a fatal hit-and-run incident in Rathkeale Co. Limerick on Saturday.
The victim, named locally as Marguerita Sheridan (20s), died after a van struck a set of gates that she was standing beside.
The driver did not remain at the scene to offer Ms Sheridan assistance.
Ms Sheridan was taken to University Hospital Limerick where she was later pronounced deceased.
The van believed to have been involved in the incident has been recovered by gardaí and is due to undergo a technical examination.
The man is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in Co. Limerick.
Gardaí continue to appeal for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.
Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dashcam) and were in the Rathkeale area in Co. Limerick between 11:30am and 1:00pm are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.
