When a tweet landed on my timeline announcing the news that Britain is set to axe up to 1.5 million street lights in the interest of climate change, I was more than incredulous. Surely someone’s gotten the wrong end of the stick, I thought? Is this the kind of dangerous, deep-rooted misinformation we’re warned about day in, day out?
As it turns out, a quick search produces at least four BBC articles, all in the last few months, confirming that the outrageous-sounding plan is in fact legitimate.
