Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an inmate at Cloverhill prison, Dublib over the weekend.
The body of Martin Salinger was discovered with multiple stab wounds believed to have been casued by a makeshift weapon known as a ‘shiv’.
Salinger, who was from Dublin, was arrested and facing charges in relation to the discovery of a handgun and €20,000 worth of cannabis discovered at a property in Ballyfermot.
It is understood that the body was discovered in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Gardaí have said today that they continue “to investigate all the circumstances surrounding the death of a prisoner at Cloverhill Prison in Dublin on Saturday, October 5, 2024.”
“The man (30s) arrested in relation to this investigation has been released without charge, from detention under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.”
“A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Investigations are ongoing.”
