Repairs to the three sets of damaged Leinster House gates which were rammed by a van last month remain ongoing, and are estimated to have cost over €48,000 so far, Gript can reveal.
On August 2nd 2024, the Office of Public Works (OPW) was notified that a white van had rammed into three sets of gates on the Merrion Street side of Leinster House and Government Buildings. The gates rammed were the Merrion Road gate, the gate at the entrance to the Department of the Taoiseach and the North Road gate. The driver of the vehicle, a male in his 40s, was arrested on suspicion of offences under the Road Traffic Act at the scene when the event occurred.
