The news was bumped up again today that the Department of Education plans to conduct a national survey asking parents about their preferred school ethos for their children as part of ongoing Government efforts to see more schools transfer from Catholic to multidenominational patronage.
The Government’s target of 400 multidenominational schools across the country by 2030 looks somewhat idealistic, what with there being approximately 170 at the moment – a number that is rising at, it’s fair to say, a snail’s pace. Even then, the growth in multidenominational schools has come mainly from newly-built schools rather than from transfers.
