Twenty two year old Paddy Phillips laughed yesterday as some of the evidence of the vicious assault he had inflicted on a man called Colin Ambrose was relayed in court. No less an authority than RTE reported that Phillips “sniggered” during his sentencing hearing as the court heard how he kicked and punched his defenceless victim in the head.
Despite his conduct, both in the commission of his crime and in the demeanour he displayed as it was recounted in Court, our learned friend Judge Dermot Sheehan decided that he should not go to prison: A three-year sentence, fully suspended.
