A firearms cache has been discovered by Gardaí during a raid on a suspected organised crime group in Co. Louth.
While searching a business premises in Ardee today, armed Garda officers discovered a large quantity of firearms and ammunition, including machine guns, AR-15 rifles, pistols, and weapon components. Two men in their 30s were arrested at the scene under anti-gang legislation, and they can be questioned for up to seven days.
According to An Garda Síochana, this was part of an ongoing intelligence operation which was led by the Organised and Serious Crime and Security and Intelligence sections, with officers from Emergency Response Unit (ERU) and the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau.
The scene remains taped off as an active crime scene as of this evening, and Gardaí are still staking stock of the precise amount of munitions and weapons discovered. However, they say that the cache is significant.
It is suspected that the weapons belonged to an organised crime group that is involved in firearms dealing and supplying weapons to other gangs.
