England beat little Slovakia on Sunday – just. Their most talented player Jude Bellingham scored a magnificent goal in what I always call ‘Fergie time.’ (You know what I mean.) And they got very lucky with a Kane header at the beginning of extra time, which made up for his dismal performance earlier in the game.
But questions remain. Why do such a talented bunch of players lack all imagination? As the Times said, “When everyone sobers up, and the analysis starts, the worries will come again in the form of questions. How could England’s team of Ballon d’Or contenders, all-time record breakers and player- of-the-year-award winners, be so disjointed again? How could they come so close to losing to a bunch of veterans and Slovan Bratislava triers?
