A 2-year-old girl who died tragically in Waterford has been named locally as Elizabeth (Lizzie) Troy.
Little Lizzy was from Coolnasmear, Dungarvan, and passed away on Wednesday after an incident where she became entangled in the cord of a window blind.
Lizzy, who has a twin sister called Freyja, was found unresponsive by a woman in the house who immediately contacted Gardaí.
The National Ambulance Service (NAS) rushed the little girl to University Hospital Waterford (UHW) where despite the best efforts of medics she was pronounced dead.
A funeral notice on RIP.ie says Lizzy is “deeply mourned” by by her “heartbroken parents” Nathan Troy and Mary Caitlan Rigney, her twin sister Freyja, grandparents Lisa and Declan O’ Keefe and Kathleen and Martin Troy, great grandparents Willie and Mary Rigney, great aunt Betty McEvoy, aunts Lydia and Jessica Troy and her uncles Joey and Kelvin Troy and Michael Phelan.
The little girl’s body will be reposing in Coolnasmear (Eircode X35 XR70) on Sunday 9th June from 3p.m – 7p.m followed by Mass of the Angels on Monday 10th June at 3p.m in St. Gobnait’s Church, Kilgobinet.
Her buried will be carried out afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
A statement from An Garda Síochána who have confirmed that Lizzy’s death is being treated as a tragic incident said, ‘Gardaí in Waterford responded to a call on Wednesday evening, 5th June, in relation to a child found unresponsive in her home.”
‘The child was conveyed by ambulance to University Hospital Waterford where she was later pronounced deceased.
‘A file will be prepared for the Coroner’s Court. A Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been appointed to provide support and assistance to the family of the deceased at this time’.
