A jury of eight men and four women found Dilbag Singhsehoran guilty of exposing himself to two young girls who were playing in their back garden on the 10th of June 2021.
Cork Circuit Court heard that Singhsehoran who has an address at IPAS facility Atlas House, McCowen’s Lane, Tralee assaulted the father of the two girls by punching him in the face after he was confronted by him.
Judge Sinead Behan heard that Singhsehoran has a number of previous convictions including for a similar offence which took place in Portlaoise.
An article in the Kerry Eye, by journalist Aidan O’Connor says that the children’s mother told the court that she had heard the girls screaming from the back garden before they ran into the house visibly ‘terrified’ and ‘crying’.
The mother said that she went out into the garden and found Singhsehoran there but became nervous and ran back into the house locking the doors.
She then called her husband who went looking for the man and returned about an hour later with a bloody nose and lip.
The husband said that when he and a neighbour found Singhsehoran walking down the road, “I got out of the car and asked him if he had exposed himself. He had a smirk on his face and said ‘I was playing’,”
The man explained that he called the gardaí and when he turned his face to see if a garda vehicle was approaching he was hit “full force” in the face by Singhsehoran causing the burst lip and bloody nose.
The man said “I grabbed him and put him on the ground, and literally ten seconds later the gardaí came.” the Kerry Eye reported.
The father denied instigating the assault with the female neighbour who had assisted in the search for Singhsehoran saying that he had said he would hit the father of the girls.
After his arrest Singhsehoran claimed that he had been power washing in a neighbours garden using a power hose and that the girls had approached him wishing to touch it.
He claimed that he had warned them that it was hot and said he would spray them if they did not go away.
He claimed that the children’s mother was “crazy” and that he ‘didn’t do anything’.
A jury returned a verdict of guilty and Judge Behan sentenced Singhsehoran to 20 months in prison for the exposure offence, with the final two months suspended and two-and-a-half years for the assault with the final six months suspended for a period of three years.
She also ordered that both sentences run concurrently and are backdated the man was taken into custody on the 28th of February last.
A 74 year old woman who made multiple false injury claims over a period between September 2012 and May 2014.
Grandmother Winnifred Lawrence was found guilty of making multiple false compensation claims using the name Margaret Mongan.
A court heard that Lawrence had made six such claims which were all processed through the same solicitor and had been awarded €28,310 from insurance companies which resulted in Lawrence receiving the sum of €23,185.50 after legal expenses.
She pleaded guilty to three counts of making a gain for herself or causing a loss to another by deception and has three previous convictions including one for a similar offence for which she was previously given a three year sentence which was suspended.
The Irish Examiner reported that Liberty Insurance paid €12,460, of which Lawrence received €10,000 after she claimed to have slipped in a Tesco store due to a substance being on the ground.
The grandmother also made a similar claim at a Book Value store which resulted in AIG Insurance paying out €9,600 of which she received €8,185.50.
In another instance CIE paid out €6,250 in personal injury compensation after Lawrence claimed she had burned her arm on a heating device while travelling on the number 40 bus. For this she received a net payment of €5,000
The court accepted that Lawrence has almost no education and is illiterate, noting that the solicitor who had handled her claims had played a role in the fraud, however it was also accepted that Lawrence herself had benefited substantially from the fraud.
Judge Pauline Codd sentenced her to three and a half years in prison with the final eighteen months suspended due to ill health.
A man who was “obsessed” with his female friend and installed cameras in her home recording her over several months in 2021 was jailed for four years at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
The woman came to Ireland in 2008 working as a childminder and the accused, who is a friend of the same nationality, moved into the same building.
The court heard that the man was acting as an unofficial maintenance person for all six of the apartments in the house and that he and the woman had been acquainted for some years without incident.
The 54-year-old who cannot be named in order to protect the identity of the woman recorded images of her and had edited naked photos of her drawing love hearts on her private areas.
It emerged that the man installed cameras in the woman’s bedroom and bathroom with sentencing Judge Martin Nolan describing the accused actions as a “sordid tale”.
The Limerick Leader reported that the offences took place in an apartment in Drumcondra, Dublin where the man and the victim lived in separate apartments in the same house.
The court heard that after the woman had had a male friend stay over she received a ‘lurid’ message from the accused which had prompted her to search for cameras in her home thinking that she was being watched.
After discovering a small camera in her bathroom she covered and soon afterwards received a message from the accused saying, “Son of a bitch, don’t touch my camera.”
The results of a garda investigation found a substantial number of digital images of the woman, a large amount of which were of her in a state of undress and coming out of the shower.
The court heard that the accused man has a wife and children overseas to whom he sends 1,000 monthly and that he has been an Irish citizen since 2013 and has been here for 21 years.
