A man has died in hospital following a serious assault in Cobh, Co. Cork last Friday.
At approximately 8:55pm, a man in his early 30s was seriously injured during the course of an assault in a car park on the Newtown Road.
It is believed that he was struck with a long blade.
Emergency services were called to the scene and administered aid before transferring him by ambulance to Cork University Hospital.
He remained there in a critical condition but was pronounced dead this afternoon.
A post-mortem examination will take place tomorrow which will determine the course of the investigation.
An incident room has been established at Cobh Garda Station, and a senior investigating officer is leading the investigation.
An Garda Síochána have appointed a family liaison officer to keep the family of the deceased updated.
Investigating gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the incident to come forward.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were on the Newtown Road between 8:45pm and 9:15pm are being asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
