Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister, Matteo Salvini, has called for the chemical castration of seven Egyptian migrants who allegedly gang raped a 13-year-old girl in Sicily.
The attack took place on the 30th of January in the historic port town of Villa Bellini in Catania inside a public bathroom.
It was reported that the victim and her boyfriend were approached by the gang who proceeded to beat and hold the boy down while two of them raped the girl.
Responding to the attack Salvini called for the chemical castration of the attackers saying, “Don’t come and talk to me about ‘tolerance’ or ‘error’.”
Commenting on his party’s moves to deport illegal immigrants he continued, “In the face of such horrors, there can be no clemency but only one remedy: chemical castration. I’m counting on the proposal put forward by the League to be voted in as soon as possible,”

Non venitemi a parlare di “tolleranza” o “errore”.
Davanti ad orrori del genere non può esistere clemenza ma soltanto una cura: CASTRAZIONE chimica.

His League (Lega) party colleague, MEP Annalisa Tardino, said ‘We remain firm in the idea that chemical castration is needed for rapists and paedophiles, life imprisonment for similar episodes, as well as greater security in our cities.’
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed her support towards the victim saying, “The State will be present and justice will be done.”
Italian news site La Repubblica reported that the gang are believed to have entered Italy illegally between November 2021 and March 2023 as ‘unaccompanied minors’.
The victim is reported as saying that she and her boyfriend were out for a walk at around 7:30pm when the gang surrounded them.
She said members of the gang proceeded to touch her despite repeated pleas for them to stop and that when she and her boyfriend tried to move away they were “grabbed”.
The attack lasted 30 minutes with the victim saying that her boyfriend continually pleaded with the attacks to stop.
The victim has identified 2 of the attackers while her boyfriend identified the remaining 5 who were involved in the incident according to prosecutors.
Four adults have been arrested, with three minors being detained at the Precautionary First Reception Center in Catania.
It was reported that one of the minors tried to escape the facility but was apprehended.
