Ireland’s national health service has urged employees to wear badges featuring the staff member’s “gender pronouns,” all in an effort to show “awareness” of “varying gender identities,” and encourages staff to ask patients what their pronouns are if unsure.
The recommendation was made in a video entitled “The Culturally competent care of LGBT+ Patients,” which was posted to HSeLanD, the HSE’s national online learning portal on March 8th 2023. The video is aimed at helping staff to deal with LGBTQ+ patients.
