It’s well known that Ireland has a shockingly large NGO sector. Even foreign officials are gobsmacked when they find out about the industry’s scale.
In 2019, one stunned UN official visiting the country asked half-jokingly: “No, seriously, is everyone in ireland in an NGO?” She couldn’t believe the sheer volume of organisations. And it’s not hard to see where she would have gotten that impression.
