Fingal library has ‘unfollowed’ famed author JK Rowling – and everyone else – on Twitter after transgender activists kicked up a row regarding the Twitter accounts the library was following.
As reported on Gript last week, Green Councillor, Karen Power, tweeted that she was “majorly concerned” with the accounts Fingal Libraries were following and that she would “raise it immediately with Council officials”.
Power was thanked, along with Sinn Féin’s Louise O’Reilly and Labour’s Seána Ó Rodaigh, by activist Robert Bohan for their work in getting the Fingal Library Twitter account suspended last week.
The accounts in question included those of feminists who believe that biological sex is real and that gender is not fluid, and that biological men should not have the right to insist they are housed in women’s domestic violence refuges or take part in women’s sports.
At one point Cllr Power described leading British barrister, Allison Bailey, who is a feminist and a lesbian, as “transphobic”, an accusation the barrister described as “defamation”.
The library then announced it was unfollowing everyone it had previously followed, while it undertook a ‘review’ of its policies and procedures.

The Sunday Times reports that an “internal investigation” was being launched in the library, which sounds rather ominous for library staff who may have thought it was permissible to follow a leading children’s author, and some interesting critics of theory.
