As the EMA & HSE approve the Pfizer jab for children aged 5-11, it’s worth noting that zero children in Ireland under-12 have died of Covid-19 during the pandemic.
It’s been announced that the HSE will be rolling out the Covid-19 Pfizer vaccine to children between the ages of 5 and 11, after that age cohort was approved to receive the jab by the European Medicines Agency.

However, according to the HSE’s Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC), zero children under the age of 12 have died of Covid-19 in Ireland since the start of the pandemic.
On November 24th 2021 the Department of Health published the “Health in Ireland: Key Trends 2021” report.
Page 76 of this document contains a breakdown of Covid cases, hospitalisations, ICU admittance and death by age cohort. Data was gathered between March of 2020 and the 14th of November 2021.
This table shows that zero children between the ages of 0 and 12 have died of Covid-19 since the outset of the pandemic.

Additionally, of the 70,104 children in this age cohort who have contracted Covid, only 21 have ended up in ICU – an average of around one per month. It is unknown how many of these had serious underlying conditions or comorbidities.
Despite this fact, Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla has said that his pharmaceutical giant is currently doing trials for the vaccine using children as young as 2 years old.

Chief Medical Advisor to the US President, Dr. Anthony Fauci, said in a Business Insider interview last week that toddlers and babies as young as 6 months old may be eligible for the vaccine as soon as spring of 2022.
