A UK Labour Party councillor who lost his seat in the recent local elections has said that the voters “let down” his party.
Chris Emmas-Williams, who for 35 years until this weekend served on Derbyshire’s Amber Valley council, spoke following a crushing electoral defeat to the UK Conservative Party.
“It’s been a disastrous day for us”, said Emmas-Williams, as published in Derbyshire Live.
“At the end of the day we delivered on our promises to people. I thought this election was based on local issues but that’s not been the case.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been in an election with so much acrimony and so many lies in campaign literature.
“The voters have let us down. I hope they don’t live to regret it,” he added.
Before this latest election, Labour controlled the local council, holding 27 out of the total 45 seats. The Tories, who previously held 17 seats, gained an additional 9, and appear on course to take an overall majority in the council, as reported by Foxhole News.

“A lesson for everyone who loses in an election (from any party or none): NEVER blame/threaten the voters if you ever hope to persuade them to vote for you again,” said former Brexit MEP Claire Fox.

This from Derbyshire Labour is a model of how not to react to losing. Perhaps some humility to reflect on own faults? https://t.co/QiqBpKZ1XL
