Kerry hotel gets €140,000 rates bill – despite being forced to close for Covid lockdown.
The manager of a well-known hotel in Killarney has revealed he was charged almost €140,000 in rates despite the ongoing lockdown.
Tom Randles, the manager of Randles Hotel, tweeted a photo of the bill for €139, 376.75 he had been sent by Kerry County Council for rates due for 2021.
“Thank you ,” he tweeted to the County Council, “for rates bill of €140,000!!!.”
“WTF??? The tables are empty, the swim pool is alone, it rings no more the telephone, I miss the team , I miss the guest. Who would believe this crazyfest,” he said, expressing frustration at the ongoing situation.

Hotels and restaurants have been especially badly hit in the lockdown, with many fearing that they won’t survive continued tight restrictions.
