Two teens charged with the murder of Croatian man in Dublin

Two men have appeared in court charged with the murder of Croatian man Josip Strok who died following an incident in west Dublin last month.

Mr Strok, a carpenter who lived in central Dublin, suffered severe head injuries following an incident at Grange View Way, Clondalkin, on March 30.

He was taken to Tallaght hospital, where he died from his injuries four days later on April 3.

His friend David Družinec, 28, was allegedly attacked during the same incident.

Gardaí attached to the Clondalkin District and the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation carried out arrests yesterday and charged two men.

Connor Rafferty, 19, of Castlegrange Close, Clondalkin, and Anthony Delappe, 18, of Melrose Avenue, Clondalkin, were both charged at Ballyfermot Garda Station with the murder of Mr Strok and assault causing harm to his friend, Mr Družinec, on March 30.

They appeared separately before Judge Máire Conneely at Blanchardstown District Court this morning.

Giving evidence, Garda Patrick Fallon told the court that Mr Rafferty was charged just after 10pm last night and he “made no reply” when cautioned.

Garda Barry O’Shea gave evidence in the case of the co-accused. The court heard that Mr Delappe made no reply when he was charged.

The Judge granted legal aid to both men and remanded them to custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on 2 May.

Both men’s solicitors have said that their clients intend to apply for bail on the assault charge when their cases resume at Cloverhill District Court on May 2.

The District Court does not have jurisdiction to consider bail in murder cases, which require applications in the High Court.

Both men have yet to indicate how they will plead.

The gardaí were granted a minor amendment directed by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), changing the date of the murder offence from March 30 to April 3.

A third man arrested during the investigation was released without charge on Friday, pending directions from the DPP.

Would you support a decision by Ireland to copy the UK's "Rwanda Plan", under which asylum seekers are sent to the safe - but third world - African country instead of being allowed to remain here?
