A woman in her 50s has been mauled and hospitalised by a number of dogs in Dublin yesterday.
On Thursday afternoon, emergency services alerted Gardaí to the incident at a house in the Dún Laoghaire area of Dublin.
“She has been taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital for treatment of her injuries, which are understood to be serious,” the Gardaí told Gript in a statement.
“The dogs are currently in the custody of the Dog Warden.”
Gardaí say that investigations are “ongoing.”
According to RTÉ, the dogs are “understood to be bulldogs” and that there were two dogs involved. However, it is not clear if they are on the list of restricted breeds.
In recent months there have been a string of dog attacks in Ireland involving the XL Bully Breed, which have been banned by Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys due to their disproportionate aggression and danger compared to other dog types. From February 1st 2025, it will be illegal to own an XL Bully without a ‘Certificate of Exemption’.
