A woman in her 30s has alleged that she was violently raped outside a Dublin pub by a man who was only in the state for a week at the time of the alleged incident.
As reported by journalist Andrew Phelan, the woman says she was socializing with friends on the 9th of March last when the man in whose company she was standing outside the pub started to grab at her and grope her when he was standing outside the premises with him alone.
The woman had gone out with friends and had been socializing with them and the accused on the 8th of March. She says that she stayed with her friends on the night of the 8th of March and that the group including the man had gone out again the following day.
The woman alleges that the man made advances towards her outside a pub and continued to force himself on her and proceeded to hold her head to the ground by her hair after she had lost her footing.
The woman says the man held his hand over her mouth and bashed her head against a wall when she rejected the advances and went on to remove her trousers and underwear.
After allegedly committing what was described as a “vicious and violent” rape the man – a father of one from Eastern Europe – fled the scene.
Three witnesses who are not known to the victim saw the incident and two of them intervened to help the woman.
The suspect was allegedly seen running away from the scene while adjusting his trousers.
He was later arrested and charged by Gardaí with a Detective Garda describing the alleged crime as a “brazen” assault which took place in a public place.
