Storm Debi tore across the country last night as Met Éireann warned of a “potential danger to life” because of to powerful wind gusts, and this morning saw more than 100,000 homes and businesses left without power.
Gusts of 115km/h have been recorded overnight in Athenry but the winds have now died off right across the country.
The kids got a lie-in this morning, as schools in 20 counties where status red and orange alerts were issued were told not to open until 10am.
Status red wind warnings were in place for east Galway, Roscommon, Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Louth, Meath, Wicklow, Offaly and Westmeath.
Videos and photos shared on X showed the impact of powerful winds as the storm intensified.
