The traditional St. Patrick’s Day meeting between the Irish Taoiseach and the US President is usually a smooth, uneventful affair – a chance to renew the bonds of fellowship between Ireland and America, to do a fairly low-effort photo op exchanging some shamrocks, drink a few pints of Guinness and be done with it.
