It’s been well known for a long time now that the State offers significant financial support to thousands of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), but less well-known – it seems to me – are the numerous private ‘social enterprises’ that receive extensive support, from the State and from other social enterprises, to provide services that it doesn’t seem there’d be sufficient demand for otherwise.
As is often the best way to approach a sprawling topic, one organisation provides a microcosmic look at the phenomenon: Gorm Media, which came to this writer’s attention while writing about the media regulator’s (Coimisiún na Meán) GEDI strategy.
