A petition started on advocacy platform change.org has received over 3,000 signatures since it was launched yesterday evening.
The petition aims to overturn an order to destroy a pet Jack Russell which was granted by Judge James Faughnan at Strokestown District Court, and later upheld at Athlone Circuit Court by Judge Karen Fergus.
The 5 year old dog named Kim was involved in an incident where a woman was allegedly bitten on the leg as she passed the rural home of 85 year old Donal Rogers, Kim’s devoted owner.

Gript broke the story in an article published yesterday, accompanied by a video in which Donal recounts what happened.
Until recently, Donal and his beloved pet enjoyed a simple life together spending long periods in the garden or Donal’s car.
About two months ago Kim bit one of a small group of passers by outside Donal’s house. “My little dog was lying in the sun on the front lawn of my house on a Sunday morning”, Donal explained.
He continued: ”Strangers came down the road, walking, and she ran out on the road, and she nipped the person on the leg”.
“She’s a friendly dog, and she has never been involved in injuring anybody before this incident, or since this incident.”
