A third child has died after a stabbing incident which took place at a children’s event in Southport, UK yesterday morning.
The 9-year-old girl died in hospital from injuries she sustained during the incident.
A 17-year-old Rwandan origin male was taken into custody in relation to the incident in which two other young girls lost their lives yesterday.
The suspect is being held on suspicions of murder and attempted murder.
11 children were injured in the incident including the three children who have died.
Merseyside Police said, “Sadly we can confirm that a third child has passed away as a result of injuries sustained in a knife attack in Southport yesterday morning,” Merseyside Police said in a statement.
“The nine-year-old girl died in hospital in the early hours of this morning, Tuesday 30 July.
“We can confirm that the children who died yesterday were girls aged six and seven years.
“Eight other children suffered stab wounds sustained during the attack, and five of them are in a critical condition.
“Two adults are also in a critical condition after being injured during the incident.”
UK police say that although investigations are still ongoing, the incident is not being treated as terror related.
