I couldn’t resist an email that arrived in my inbox overnight, from an American project with Southern Poverty Law Centre roots, warning about “far-right extremism increasing in Ireland” in the years since the pandemic.
As one might expect, in their updated 2025 country report for Ireland, they paint with a broad brush when it comes to identifying and analysing the perceived threat, grouping such diverse organisations as former National Party leader, Justin Barrett’s Clann Éireann and Comhaltas na nGaedheal together with the Iona Institute and The Countess.
