If the headlines are anything to go by, Sunday was a dark day for democracy in Europe. Poland elected the national-conservative candidate, Karol Nawrocki, in a very clear blow to centrist Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s dreams of reform. Such a blow, in fact, that Tusk made the risky decision to call a vote of confidence in his government, hoping and expecting that it will shore up his mandate.
That vote is due to take place June 11.
