We stayed with a number of friends and their children over the weekend while attending a wedding, and it was a glorious, messy affair, as well as a reminder that the company of other young parents is not only nice but necessary in an age of growing childlessness.
To clarify, I have no doubt that for those raising the chaotic creatures that children are at any time, the company of other, similarly situated people was warmly welcomed. Indeed, I remember well the golden days of my own childhood when my brother and I ran among our little friends as our parents sat with theirs, everyone enjoying themselves in a carefree manner that isn’t easily replicated in any other setting.
