A man is being detained after an alleged early morning standoff at Blanchardstown Garda station.
The man, whose identity has not yet been made public, was detained on mental health grounds after he allegedly entered Blanchardstown Garda station at around 4am and proceeded to make threats against those present.
The alleged incident, in the midst of which the man is understood to have brandished a knife, led to a standoff situation where officers from the Garda negotiations unit were deployed.
A Garda spokesperson said that, “An Garda Síochána initiated its Operational Command protocol, appointing an On-Scene Commander. Local Garda negotiators from the National Negotiators Unit, along with the Armed Support Unit, attended the scene,” a Garda spokesperson said.
“Arising from the incident, an adult male has been detained under provisions of Section 12 of the Mental Health Act, 2001.”
An investigation into the alleged incident is ongoing.
