The 2015 movie The Intern is 10 years old this year. I watched it a few weeks ago with my daughter and was triggered. The Intern is a sort of sequel to the Devil Wears Prada. It stars Anne Hathaway as the boss and Robert De Niro as the boomer who is bored by his beautiful New York apartment and retirement so becomes an intern to workaholic Girl Boss Jules.
The Intern is peak Girl Boss movie. Jules is not as nasty as Miranda Priestly in the Devil Wears Prada (which I also have issues with) but she leaves much to be desired. Jules has built her internet company About the Fit from nothing into a very successful enterprise. She is relatively nice to her employees and is so busy must cycle around the office. You certainly would not catch her throwing her incredibly expensive handbag and coat at her assistant or literally looking down her nose at her intern, like Miranda does. However, Jules is a pretty crappy wife and mother. Is this because she owns her own successful company and/or is a working mother? No. It is because she is what I call a work extremist aka a workaholic.
