An Oxfam retail assistant has avoided a conviction after engaging in a fist fight on a Luas on the 14th of July, 2024.
Mohamed Gsis appeared before Dublin District Court where Garda Kate O’Brien Laidlaw told Judge Michele Finan that Gsis – who pleaded guilty to a breach of Section 6 of the Public Order Act – was involved in a fist fight on board a Luas on O’Connell Street.
Garda O’Brien Laidlaw told the court that she had seen passenger “fleeing” from the tram where two men were involved in an altercation and behaving in a “aggressive and threatening manner” and had their hands in fists when Gardaí arrived.
Gsis has one previous conviction also for a breach of the Public Order Act dating from the 16th of December 2022, which was dealt with by way of the Probation Act.
Judge Finan ordered Gsis to “apologise” to Garda O’Brien Laidlaw with the court deciding to deal with this incident by way of the Probation Act, and allowing Gsis to avoid taking a sentence.
He was ordered to pay €200 to Little Blue Heroes with the court hearing that he has not come to Garda attention since the incident and has no other matters before the courts.
