When anti-capitalist Marxists and big corporate lobbying groups are campaigning for the same policies, you know a wire is after getting crossed in your political system.
Chambers Ireland, the biggest business lobbying organisation in the country, has praised the government for giving amnesty to tens of thousands of illegal immigrants, and urged more of the same.
The body, which self-describes as “Ireland’s largest business organisation,” has a self-stated goal of “lobbying the Government and other stakeholders on key policy issues.” They are partnered with organisations like AIB and Zurich Insurance, and have numerous corporate patrons, including Bank of Ireland and the National Lottery.
The group “welcomed the announcement of a new scheme to regularise long-term undocumented migrants in Ireland” in a statement, but “urged the creation of a formal process to fully regularise all undocumented persons from now on.”
In other words, rather than this amnesty being a “once-in-a-generation” policy, it should be an ongoing policy going into the future.
“There urgently needs to be a formal process put in place to process the full regularization of all undocumented people, not just those who meet the narrow requirements of this ‘once-in-a-generation’ scheme,” said Chambers Ireland Chief Executive, Ian Talbot.
“After a long period of campaigning for the inclusion of undocumented workers and their children to be regularised, this morning’s announcement marks a very positive step towards the regularisation of thousands of migrants…”
Now, no doubt self-described “radical left” groups like People Before Profit are popping champagne right now.

After all, amnesty for illegal immigrants has been high on their agenda for years now, and is a major hobby horse of the Marxist Left in Ireland.
Introducing Marxism 2020 | Which Side Are You On?
Marxism 2020 is an online conference for radicals & activists, on the 4th-6th Dec.
Many PBP elected reps & activists will be speaking throughout what promises to be a great weekend.

As it says on PBP’s website:
“End Deportations – Legalise Undocumented Migrants: We support the call to normalise the undocumented Irish in the USA, but this must go both ways. We are for the normalisation (i.e. ’legalisation’) of undocumented migrants here in Ireland too. We oppose all deportations either from Ireland or the USA.”
At this point one has to ask; why do people who call themselves Marxists, who constantly rail against the evils of Big Business, hold the same policy position on this issue as those they’d no doubt denounce as “greedy capitalists”?

Evidently, someone here is confused – either massive corporations have more socialist credentials than we realised, or groups like PBP have more in common with the bourgeoisie than they knew.
Underneath all the pro-open borders Left’s talk of “human rights,” and “inclusion,” and “diversity,” the truth comes out.
All along this amnesty policy was being lobbied for by an organisation whose main purpose is to represent the interests of large businesses, including massive multi-billion euro corporations.
We’ve already heard warnings from groups like the Irish Central Bank that there aren’t enough migrants arriving into the country to keep wages down.

It’s no secret that mass migration has a net effect of suppressing wages – it’s basic economics. The more there is of a resource in the economy – in this case, workers – the less valuable that resource is. Open borders immigration over-saturates the labour market and results in cheaper labour for business owners, and lower pay for workers.
Just look at how wages have started to increase now that Brexit Britain ended its free travel arrangements with the continent. Less migration equals less labour equals more money for workers currently in the economy.

If Marxists like those in PBP were honest with themselves, they’d pause for a moment and think about what they’re doing. They’d realise that by campaigning for open borders and illegal migration, they are simply doing the bidding of the people they say are their sworn enemies – the big business capitalist fat cats. They are mere pawns and useful idiots for the world’s wealthiest and most powerful corporatist elite, whether they realise it or not.
Unfortunately, I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for the penny to drop.
