It was not the so-called “sexual revolution” of the 1960’s but the systematic murder of common sense that did the lasting damage. How else would the Orwellianly-named “Minister for Higher and Further education”, James Lawless, pronounce – as he did this week – that giving every single student their own bathroom each would be “wasteful”.
Quite so. Traditional common sense would have rendered such observations both otiose and idiotic. The laureate of such wisdom, Rudyard Kipling, named the deities of those eternal truths, “The Gods of the Copybook headings.”
