So Ireland has finally elected the modern incarnation of Cathleen ni Houlihan as President, who as her first act promptly fired a neutralist-torpedo into the government’s Lusitania of non-neutrality.
Where do we go from here? The electorate was of course not given the option of voting about the existential issues facing us: immigration, energy, IT and green ideology. Instead, the two candidates prattled away about virtually nothing, other than one had merely done her bounden-duty as a barrister, which is true, but Fine Gael, the party of barristers, nonetheless managed to make that an issue. Really? Is that it?
