A Judge sitting at Dublin District Court has barred the media from revealing the identity of a man who was arrested on suspicion of attempting to kidnap a child from Sheriff Street, Dublin.
The man who is eastern European and has an address in Lenister was arrested and later charged after the mother of a one-and-a-half year old girl alleges he tried to snatch the child.
Judge Monika Leech granted a request of “reporting restriction of all parties” from the man’s defence counsel who cited “safety” concerns due to social media activity surrounding the case.
As reported by the Irish Times, prosecuting Garda Sergeant William Godfrey said “It is a very sensitive matter and has a propensity to cause issues”.
The man made no reply to the charges of intentionally trying to take a child under the age of 16 from the control of a named individual without lawful authority or reasonable excuse.
